Woah!!… that’s a bit heavy I can hear you saying. Yes it is rather. So then who in The Bible are the damned exactly? Interestingly it is not as one might expect; those that did not know the truth, or have chosen the wrong denomination, or who do not pray six times a day – but something quite different. Take a look at this verse from the bible;
“And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
Watch out what you love… make sure it’s truth!
So – the damned in the Bible are not those that necessarily did not know the truth in the first place (let’s face it – we all see only in part and see through a glass darkly the Bible says). No – the damned are those that did not love truth and thirst after it (all who thirst will be filled remember) and accordingly were then sent a delusion so that then they believed lies.
Loving and thirsting after truth and actually knowing it are two very different things and gracefully God doesn’t require us to know truth but to simply love truth – then if we love truth, The Holy Spirit promises to lead us from our darkness into “all truth” which is a journey. Seems perfectly fair to me.
