The word politics comes from the ancient greek; poli (meaning ‘many’) and the greek word tick – meaning ‘a small blood sucking creature’. I heard that little joke this morning and no doubt it’s another old one, but perhaps with more of a grain of truth in it.
But let’s not forget there are always some people that go into politics for the right reasons – the challenge for them is not to be bought off by the big companies who offer to finance their political campaigns and then later the bribes that come from other rich people, corporations and political entities – for instance, which politician on EU gravy train would have the guts to say no to this unelected group of bureaucrats – if they are asked to do something against their conscience? Not many I would wager, lest they want to find the wheel nuts of their cars undone in the dead of night. Nigel Farage may not be perfect, but he’s one of a tiny handful of men with real guts.
Incidentally, private financing of political campaigns should be banned in my view – I mean how can that EVER help democracy? But then who would finance these people?.. perhaps we should leave the race to the self-made Donald Trumps of the word – people that have really made their own way – granted many having made money in questionable ways – but then leave the final election to the people to choose between the most godly – or the best of the bunch.
I’m not sure what the answer is here but basically we currently have a system of; the person with the biggest PR budget wins. Why not make them stand on soap boxes in the streets like they did in the old days and let the people come to them to decide – instead of allowing them to hire massive marketing companies and teams to trash the opposition with often what amount to lies, and allowing them to beam their propaganda around the globe confusing ordinary and easily emotionally manipulated folk like you and me – it’s too easy for them to be elected by might rather than right.
Having thrown God out with the bath water, politics is in trouble in the West which is now opening a huge vacuum to all sorts of bad ideologies.
