It’s ISIS right?.. or what about the Chinese, who are rapidly becoming a super-super military threat to the west, or what about Putin – surely that man is the largest threat to The United States of America or some other force or person like him? Or what about an alien threat, or a ten mile wide asteroid, or perhaps it’s the Catholic Church is it decides to begin another inquisition. OK – how about a plague, a world-wide famine or a super-volcano? Surely one of those must be the greatest threat to the US?
Well, if any of that was true that would be pretty good for all of us. Unfortunately (or fortunately – depending on how you look at it and who’s side you are on) the real threat to America is very much more – and perhaps infinitely more powerful than China, Russia, Australia and in fact all of the nations of the world’s military might put together and tripled.
and what is this power one might ask? GOD. The Bible tells us to fear God above all and that; “the beginning of wisdom is the fear of God.” Why should we fear God? Because ultimately He has the power and the keys to death and life – not Vladimir Putin or some other dictator. We must fear God – the one who managed to bind all the kinetic energy in the cosmos and turn it into matter – you and I – and can just as easily unleash that power.
We are not playing with fire when we ignore God’s judgement on the world, we are playing with life and death, and every other possible threat, disaster, military or otherwise – pales into insignificance when held against the power of God – for whom most of these despots are simply His pawns and His means to show that only His governance will work in the end – and only He is enough for any of us. God will have His way wether we like it or not – wether we go along with Him or wether we by ignoring His words and decrees default to help the enemy and make ourselves complicit in the heavenly war that is raging – unknown to most. One way or another – willingly or unwillingly, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
