They lie on the table side by side
The Holy Bible and the TV Guide.
One is well worn and cherished with pride.
Not the Bible, but the TV Guide.
One is used daily to help folks decide.
No, not the Bible, But the TV Guide.
As the pages are turned, what shall they see,
Oh, what does it matter, turn on the TV
So they open the book in which they confide,
No, not the Bible, but the TV Guide.
The Word of God is seldom read.
Maybe a verse before they fall into bed.
Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be.
Not from reading the Bible, from watching TV
So then back to the table side by side,
Lie the Holy Bible and the TV Guide.
No time for prayer, no time for the Word,
The plan of Salvation is seldom heard.
But forgiveness of sin, so full and free,
Is found in the Bible, not on TV
As a footnote I’d like to say that there is some great stuff on TV. It’s in no way all bad. However, the approach that Satan always takes – rather than replace good with bad, which would be instantly distasteful to us and we would flatly reject – and thus it would have no longterm effect on our mind and body – is far better, far more intelligent and far more effective.
He always mixes or ‘mingles’ the bad in with the good, truth in with falsehood, and in this way we are very very very easy to snare. In fact it’s impossible to stay away from the stuff that affects our subconscious. It’s not for me to say throw away your TV as this may be be too much where you are now, or perhaps not even God’s will as you may be learning from it – I don’t know (I have however taken this step myself and i can tell you my life has only got richer and better and i have more time for others and myself to do things like write this:) – but whatever you do, be careful what you allow your eyes to see and ears to hear as EVERYTHING you see, hear, smell, and taste is recorded in neural pathways in your mind – even if you don’t recall it now, there IS a trace left by everything we experience and this is now backed by science (not just The Bible).
