I mean it’s obvious really, knowing that Jesus and from reading The Bible – the most ‘successful’ of all followers of God had no pillow to lay his head – but still it seems that it needs to be spelled out and that many churches and church leaders won’t cease to teach their naive and unread congregation that they must ‘prosper’ in terms of finances and that doing so is a sign of Godliness.
No, the real meaning in the Bible is to be successful in whatever you do for the Lord. If that is saving souls – then you will be successful. If it means teaching then you will be prosperous at that. Don’t believe any man when he tells you – your problem in Christ is that you haven’t got enough money – Jesus had no pillow to lay his head!
Does this mean we have to be poor? Of course it doesn’t mean we have to – but we might be required to be poor like Jesus for a time, or for all of our lives we may be required to give up our worldly pleasures. If your pastor is telling you anything different, especially if he is telling you that the way to be prosperous financially is to donate to his coffers – get out!
