So I’d heard ‘freelance’ and floating doctors were being paid up to £1000 a day and this made me wince. I mean – isn’t it obvious – that if this is happening – it must be the tip of an iceberg? But you can’t blame them… I mean who would turn down being paid such extortionate and exceptional sums in this day and age? Only someone with exceptional scruples.
I’m no daft socialist that thinks we can create a utopian society and all for free-market capitalism – he who works hard and sets out to earn well and live the life they want to should be free to do so (I have not chosen that path – that is my decision) and paid whatever the market is willing to pay – but sorry – NO ONE is worth £4000 a shift when it comes to working for a state run health service. That is sick. If that were me, I’d say – sure pay me £4000 a day but I’ll be giving away £3900. I mean if I accepted £500 a day I would feel like a thief. How do these administrators get to waste this kind of money and how to doctors feel ok accepting it?
So then, were hear reports that the National Health Service are buckling under crippling lack or staff and under-funding – give me and all the poor ordinary people paying this extortion money a break! But I suppose I’m wasting my breath. This has been happening since the beginning of time. So what’s the answer? A change from within.
We can’t blame the doctors
Let’s pray that some of these doctors look at themselves in the mirror – perhaps they hear the gospel and stand up and say enough is enough – or better – do something about it by using their great medical knowledge and experience in positions of responsible money management.
I remember my old dentist – a good man – used insist on doing so many hours a month at the NHS along side his well paid private practice. The truth is we shouldn’t expect immoral people to take moral responsibility themselves – but we can sack anyone that offers and effectively wastes this kind of money. I wonder – is it possible that the people offering locums this kind of stupid money feel comfortable doing in this because they themselves are being paid ridiculous sums? I think we can guess the answer.
