We know from the Bible we are not saved through doing good works, but The Bible is equally clear why we should do good works! Because through our good works the light is shone and our Father is glorified. People who are in doubt about God are not stupid. They know when someone is the real deal or just hot air and they will be watching your deeds far more than your words.
So works are VERY important – not for our salvation, but for the salvation of others! After all how are people going to see God’s love if they are in need and you don’t supply that need? Saying you love someone means nothing if you don’t back that up with what God calls the greatest form of love in The Bible – namely CHARITY.
It is unfortunate that the emphasis in many modern churches is on self, unlike say the Catholic church where people are far more eager to do good works – even if for the wrong reasons. I’m saved so I need do nothing except tell everyone else they too need to be saved is the attitude of many charismatics, when really no one will take this message seriously unless they see God’s love in action. I am talking to myself here but wanted to voice my thoughts to help others see this truth.
