What’s the world’s definition of success?
(101; we must say some of these are good – if done with God in mind…)
- To laugh much
- To win respect of intelligent persons of children;
- To earn the approbation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
- To appreciate beauty;
- To find the best in others;
- To give one’s self; (great if done with God in mind)
- To leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch,
or a redeemed social condition; - To have played and laughed with enthusiasm, and sung with exultation;
- To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived;This is to have succeeded.
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
Let’s compare this to the Bible’s version of success…
- Jesus we know was NO respecter of persons – in other words he did not judge a person’s character by their social standing.
- He also said – “what is it to gain the whole world and loose your soul?”
- We all know that biblical success is searching out the truth and learning the ways of God.
- sacrificing ones own needs and desires for the good of others
- The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom.
