Are Christians Predetermined or Predestined?

Is there a Difference?

There is a big difference at least in the words predestined and predetermined. If something is predetermined – is WILL happen regardless of circumstance. But what if something is predestined… does that mean it has to happen? Let’s look at the word the Bible translators used.

Wikipedia’s definition of predestination >>

Predestined comes from the word destiny or destination. Now if I predestine my trip to the zoo it just means that my desired pre-defined destiny is the zoo, but it doesn’t mean I will necessarily end up there if I take a wrong turn or crash or some other event stops me reaching my pre-destined destination.

Pre-determined on the other hand means I will end up at the zoo no matter what. So even if this is not the intended meaning in The Bible it’s worth looking at. In any case, God knows the beginning from the end since the names are already in the book so in that sense at least we are ‘chosen’ . Exactly what chosen means is up for discussion.

Update…

Having researched this further I came across this incredible audiobook by A.W.Pink on the sovereignty of God where he addresses the whole issue of predestination and election and ordination and closely compares the various positions with actual scripture verses. Best I leave it to the expert!..
