Around 2003, I came up with an idea; imagine every car in the world as advertising space. What? Well think of all those parked cars all over the planet with windows and flat metal body panels just sitting there with countless people and shoppers walking past – and then imagine that all those parked cars have wafer thin led screens displaying ads only relevant to people who are passing them? Like – 2-for-1 at the restaurant you are about to see on your left.
Then – imagine that the people who own the cars – after they click their car door shut and the ads automatically appear get paid pennies per ad – until they get back in their cars and the ads are automatically turned off (it would be dangerous otherwise right?).
To be honest though – I think this would just add to the crap that’s already clogging our lives – but I find it fun coming up with hair-brained ideas and watching them actually happen years later to mass excitement. I suppose my dating site – that was originally a Christian social network – but aimed at singles was another example – I designed in 2000. Its now a singles focused site and quite outdated though still pretty useful – www.fusion101.com. I wanted people to make friends with a click and build local networks of friends – many things I saw years later on MySpace and Facebook.
One I came up with about ten years ago I have just seen in the last year – is a site and app that allows you to snap all the things in your house and attach an sku – so effectively everyones house becomes a mini Amazon warehouse – and people trade locally and get paid money for goods they want to get rid off – cool – I just saw an ad for a company that had just produced this.
There are lots of other ideas I’ve come up haven’t seen done properly – and I will write about them here when I get a mo for fun.
I remember in 2001 I suggested to my programer – who compared to me was genius that we would all be using our TVs to access the web and keyboards from our sofa – and he said never 🙂
