In one sense the more times you break the law the worse things are clearly getting… but what is meant here, is that if you were to say drive through 9 sets of traffic lights legally but only go through 1 red light and you are stopped by the police, you can’t say; “hey officer I drove through 9 legally so why book me for going through 1 red light?!”
It won’t wash for obvious reasons and you will face the full force of the law for breaking the law that one time. So breaking the law more times could get you in more hot water, but breaking it just once could land you in jail. This is why we need someone (Jesus Christ) to bail us out.
