Of course he would greet friends with warmth, but when it came to his father’s business and faith, Jesus was rather against such ‘warmness’. When it came to truth and love he would meet people, unbelievers and churches either with great love, or great rebuke and not a great deal in between. He also threatened, just like the luke-warm water that came from the ancient water ways and made you sick that he knew about, that he would spew out people and churches that were like this sickening water.
Rather be hot or cold – study truth and error and stand for something either side of the debate so something can still be done with you – but not nothing – not luke-warm. Take sides and don’t be afraid to believe something if you think it is right with all your heart. Just remain open to learning and being taught by the Holy Spirit the truth on any matter and perhaps be changed in your understanding and faith. Jesus will make sure of that if you search for truth in earnest.
